Make your own ring tones

Ever wanted to turn your favourite song into a ring tone?

Or record your own custom ring tone?

It is quite easy really.

Just follow these steps to create free ringtones for your . . .

19797v1 max 250x250

iPhone using only iTunes and songs on your computer.

In iTunes, select a song to use for your new ringtone.

Listen to the song and decide what part you want to make into the ring tone.
You might want the first 26 seconds, 0 sec to 26 sec.
Or you may want something from the middle of the track, say 58 sec to 1 min 16 sec.
It should be 30 seconds or less.

Then . . .

  1. Right click on the track and select “Get Info”.

  2. Click on “Options” tab.

  3. Click on the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes.

  4. Enter the time you want your ring tone to start and stop.

  5. Click OK.  You have just changed the way this song plays in iTunes. Don’t worry, you can change it back later.

  6. Right click on the “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC“.

If you do not see “Convert Selection to AAC” then
. . . click on iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing
Change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”.

Next . . .

  1. Open Finder and locate the song in your iTunes Music folder.

  2. Drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).

  3. Change the filename extension from .m4a to .m4r

  4. Double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section.

  5. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done!

Go back into iTunes and uncheck your custom start and stop times for the original version of your song so that the full song will play again in iTunes.

Got an annoying caller?

If you have an annoying caller, you can set a special ring tone for their number in your phone . . . one that makes no sound, so that you do not hear and cannot be disturbed by the call.

Just download the ring tone called The Sounds Of Silence . . . LOL

Upload the tone to your phone and then set this as the ring tone for that annoying caller or number.

Take it a step further.

If you get a lot of telemarketing calls, then set up a new contact in your phone and call it “Telemarketers“.  Set the “sounds of silence” ring tone for this contact, and then add all those pesky telemarketing numbers to it.

Then you’ll know for certain which calls not to answer.

Hope this helps . . .  icon biggrin

Do You Want Fries With That?

By now we’ve all heard of the famous catch-cry – “Do You Want Fries With That?”

It started at McDonalds, and they have made millions, if not billions, of . . .

2701003490 8c9b6a28e2 m dollars from that simple, 6 Word Question.

The customer is already standing there in front of them with their wallets and purses open.

They just tempt them to increase the purchase a little.

So it begs us to ask . . .

what are the “fries” in your business?

What is the low-price, high margin add-on that you can easily upsell to your customers with a high hit rate?

Car Refinishing

Many years ago, friends set up and ran a successful car refinishing business.

The service was not cheap.  It cost around $600 to $1,000 !

But at the end of the job, your car looked as good as the day you drove it out of the showroom.

“What was their upsell?”,  I hear you ask . . .

At the end of the job, they explained how to maintain the high shine finish and gave them a bottle of the car wash that was previously promised them.

They also offered a set of microfibre washing and polishing cloths for $45.

This was when microfibre was still quite new.

They used the microfibre cloths on the job, and they were and still are the best cloth to use on your car.

The result . . .

For an extra 5 minutes, they added significant profit to the job, for a higher hourly rate than the job itself !!  LOL

So . . .

What is your “Fries” product?

What is your easy upsell?

Something that has high margins for you but is relatively low cost for your customer to buy.

Think about small and useful products in your range.

The keys to this are:

  1. it must be low cost, high margin for you to provide

  2. it must be high value to your customers

Well, that is quite simple really!

.

What should you do now?

  1. Identify your “fries” product.

  2. Do some “trial sales” to find out how best to sell it.
