Ever wondered how to give Apple some feedback about their products?

Well, here is a simple link to do just that . . .Apple silver logo http://www.apple.com/feedback/

I’m not sure what Apple do with the feedback that they receive.

Some would say that they ignore it  LOL

But hopefully, your contribution will somehow sway future releases of Apple products.

However, do not expect to get a reply.

Well, that is quite simple really!

.

What should you do now?

  1. Click the link and give Apple some feedback.

Google just turned SEO upside down again

Yes, that’s right . . . Google just turned SEO upside down again!

One thing that you can be sure of is that Google will keep changing things.

But there is one constant in all of this, and if you follow this you should be reasonably safe, and that is . . .

CONTENT IS KING

We have said it before 100 times, and we will say it again . . .

CONTENT IS KING

That’s right!

Regardless of all the fancy schmancy SEO techniques, you still cannot beat good, old fashioned CONTENT for Google results.

Google is a search engine and it wants to help people find the information that they are searching for.

Provide that information and you are way ahead already.

The Hummingbird Update

On Sept 24, Google introduced the Hummingbord Update, so named because Google says it is “precise and fast”.

In summary, this update moves closer towards providing the precise information that searchers are looking for.

Conversational Search

So . . .

if you type in “Places to buy an iPad near my home”, Google will look at this more closely.

Rather than just providing a list of websites that sell iPads, Google will:

  • see that you are probably looking for a shop (“place”) rather than a website

  • look for places that are “near you”

The goal being to provide results that more accurately match the search questions.

This is called a “Conversational Search”.

You can read more about the Hummingbird algorithm update at Search Engine Land.

Keyword Results

Another big change that has come out is that Google is limiting or stopping the supply of Keyword Information.

In the past, Google has provided information about what keywords people are using to search with, making it easier for SEO techs to target those keywords.

The impact of this change on SEO remains to be seen.

SEO technicians have used Keyword Research in an attempt to second guess what Google will do and provide the information that Google wants.

This change further supports the idea that Google is moving towards Conversations, not Keywords.

Well, that is quite simple really!

What should you do now?

  1. Keep building quality CONTENT in your website.

Do not download new iPhone iOS7

Do not download the new Apple iPhone iOS 7 . . . well, at least not just yet.

Not that there is anything majorly wrong with it.

It’s just that with a lifetime in the IT industry, I always recommend not to be the first to try out new software.

There is always going to be some small bug or problem that needs to be fixed. And if …

you are an early taker of new software, you will be the person finding out about that bug.

Usually the hard way!

So I always say, let somebody else find and report the bugs and get them fixed first.

Case in point – the new Apple iPhone software already has a bug identified only hours after it’s been launched.

http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/mobiles/ios-7-security-flaws-uncovered-as-new-iphones-released-20130920-2u3ed.html

Users booting up their newly released iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c on Friday will be prompted to install a minor operating system update, intended to squash a few minor bugs Apple discovered with its latest handsets.

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/09/20/day-one-ios-701-update-for-iphone-5s-5c-patches-launch-bugs

So do not be too quick to rush in with new software updates.

Wait a few days and then Google for details on the updates.  You will surely find reports of how it is going.

You will need some time

The other reason not to get into downloading the new iOS 7 is that you will need a lot of time to:

  1. download it and

  2. familiarise yourself with it

Allow several hours for the software download, (depending on your download speed), which means several hours that you are not able to use your iPhone.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/20/ios-7-downloads-college_n_3962978.html?utm_hp_ref=college

So if you casually hit update during a workday, prepare to stop work.

And make sure to do it on your home or office wi-fi because it will chew up a lot of your mobile data allocation.

The second delay . . .

becoming sufficiently familiar with the new software to use it

The look and feel of the new software is totally different to earlier versions, and some functionality has changed.

It’s a bit like driving a right hand drive vehicle for the first time after you’ve spent your life driving a left hand drive.

Certainly not impossible, but it takes a bit of getting used to.

Having said that, there are some great new features in the software update.

Here are the Top 10 features in Apple iOS 7

Whatever you do, I hope that you enjoy using the new software.

Well, that is quite simple really!

Has no-one worked this out yet ??

I am truly astounded that no-one has worked this out yet . . .

When you send an sms there is no signature file attached to the sms.

And what that means is that if . . .

English: based on the graphics by tomta1 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

the sending phone number is not in the recipient’s phone contacts, the recipient has no idea who the sms came from.

With the advent of mobile phones with contact lists, we got out of the habit of memorising or even remembering phone numbers.

Therefore, very few people will recognise you as the sender of an sms from the phone number alone.

Why is this important?

Not the least would be the number of sms scams going around – an unidentified sms may be deleted instantly.

In a business context, it means that your sms to a client or potential client may get ignored, or at least deferred . . . which could mean lost sales for your business.

A solution

There is a simple solution – sign your sms.

When people who know me get an sms from me, it always ends with -

Regards . . . Philip

If they don’t know me, then I will add a further hint, like our business name.

Make it easy to do

Typing out an sms is laborious at best, and adding more text is a pain!

So . . .

1.  Use the voice activation option on your mobile phone.

On the iPhone and iPad, this is a microphone icon in the lower left corner of the keyboard.

2.  Use the Shortcuts option on your device

On the iPhone, click on

Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts > + (plus sign to add a new shortcut)

Create a shortcut that converts an unusual string of characters, like rpp, into a phrase, like Regards . . . Philip

And yes, that is quite simple really!

More ideas

Set up shortcuts to insert your website address into an sms to make it easier for your clients to find you.

e.g. on my phone

whpwwe > converts in the sms to > http://www.hotpinkwebsites.com.au/website-enquiry

whpwcu > converts in the sms to > http://www.hotpinkwebsites.com.au/contact-us

.

What should you do now?

  1. Set it up now and get in the habit of using it.
